Last year, just about this time on May 30th, I was watching the lovely Kimberley get her hair and makeup finished and slip into her lovely wedding gown.  I have to say that I was truly blessed to get to be a part of this stunning wedding.  And now, the happy couple are expecting their first little one in October!!  Happy anniversary you two!!

Kimberley and Chris had a beautiful DIY English Country wedding in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England.  The DIY beauty began from the very beginning with the Kimberley’s handmade Save the Dates and Invitations. They were married in a traditional Anglican ceremony in the church of St. Andrew’s located in Northborough.  Kimberley had a beautiful gown from Eternity Bridal with a belt from Jenny Packham London and a bespoke veil from Ely Bespoke.  I was so overwhelmed with the beauty of this wedding from beginning to end.  The church was like a fairytale castle and Kimberley was a beautiful as a princess.  Chris arrived in a red Jaguar E-type.  Kimberley arrived to the ceremony in a white Jaguar Mark 2.  Her bridal party (a maid of honor, a man of honor, a bridesmaid, and a small bridesmaid) were awaiting her arrival.  Throughout the church, which was built in the 13th century, Kimberley had placed teacups and saucers and teapots to go with her country cottage theme.  Her bouquets were a collection of wildflowers and the bride and bridesmaids wore wildflowers in their hair.  After the ceremony, the guests traveled to Warmington to a pub called The Red Lion.  Kimberley did an amazing job on the DIY decor.  She created all of the centerpieces and escort cards.  She even sewed all of the bunting herself!! The guests were greeted with Pimms and Fosters for refreshment and then sat down to a beautiful plated meal.  The cake was made by a friend, Nicky Rooke, and adorned with beautiful sugar flowers. After dinner, the evening guests arrived and we all danced the night away to a fantastic wedding band!  This was all done on a 10,000 GBP budget and is proof that you don’t need a large budget to have a memorable and beautiful day!

From the Bride:  We met exactly 5 years previous to the wedding day on a track day at cad well park race track. His first words to me were would you like to come see my caravan which him and his friends used to sleep on track weekends so safe to say I wasn’t exactly impressed. He asked my friend for my number and despite the caravan I agreed to go on a date with him. We went to a local pub in the country side for a drink and then to the cinema where he caught me off guard with a our first kiss watching a zombie thriller! From then onward, we have pretty much been inseparable. We are a perfect match as we bring out the best in each other most of the time!! We are quite different in some ways. We are big kids and so we do tend to bicker and his parents always say here come the kids when we arrive to visit them! He says the best thing about me is that life is never boring and no one day is ever the same. I’d have to say it’s because he is incredibly kind and handsome!Chris proposed by a complete surprise on his birthday he covered our home in candles, blind folded me and then got down on one knee and told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and would I marry him. I said yes as we both cried! Everything you saw on the day was lovingly made by myself from the 70ft of bunting to the vintage decor and old fashioned sweet shop favours. We had a close family friend prepare all the flowers and another the beautiful petal, lace and wild flower decorated wedding cake. The theme was English country garden but the real theme was just love, fun and memories. Pretty much the whole process was a do it yourself project. The centre pieces were a slice of walnut tree with vintage jugs full of wild flowers they were heavily complimented. Plus the sweetie shop favour table was a real hit. My vintage case to hold the wedding cards was covered in my mums wedding dress lace and pearls. She was happy for me to cut it up by the way!

Foxhall Resort and Sporting Club is one of my favorite wedding venues.  It’s luxurious and modern.  Yet can be fun and vintage all at the same time.  And did I mention that they have multiple places to get married?  Me?  I love the pool.  And one day, someone is going to slap a clear cover over that sucker and say I Do on it California style.  To see a poolside Foxhall wedding inspiration click hereI was honored to be chosen to photograph their Fall Open House last year.  The wedding inspiration has a beautiful muted palette and sweet moments like a first look that are normally missing from wedding inspiration shoots.  PLUS we had the most stunning real couple!!  Here is a bit more from planner, Jennifer, with Evermore Weddings and Events:

“This styled shoot was inspired by the gorgeous landscape and architectural elements of The Stables at the beautiful Foxhall Resort. This was a collaborative effort of the some of the talented preferred vendors to design and create an experience of sophistication, romance, and luxury that would truly showcase the beauty of this venue. Evermore Weddings and Events, along with Lila Wilson Weddings, chose a color palette of rose gold, copper, ivory and white with small pops of gray and black to give contrast and variation. Our goal of the styled shoot was to recreate the moments throughout a wedding day that a bride and groom get to experience together. One of the most special moments of a wedding day, is when a bride and groom see each other for the first time. We captured those emotions with our real life engaged couple by recreating a first look. The bride looked stunning in a champagne colored Anne Barge gown with a beautiful beaded bodice and full satin skirt, while the groom wore a traditional black tuxedo and tie. The bride carried a bouquet of white, ivory and blush florals consisting of tulips, peonies, stock and garden roses along with seeded eucalyptus.  The couple then stole a moment to spend time alone before the hustle and bustle of the wedding day by sharing a toast to each other in beautiful rose colored champagne flutes and exchange gifts. The bride gave her groom a beautiful leather journal and the groom gave his bride a pair of rose gold earrings. They were also able to practice their vows from a beautiful dove gray book with rose gold accents.  After the ceremony the bride changed in to another gown by Anne Barge for the reception. This dress had a similar beaded bodice with a chiffon skirt and a dramatic open back design. The groom complemented this look by changing in to a white dinner jacket.  The 6 layer bridal cake was the epitome of luxury with gold, silver and floral accents. For a twist on the traditional grooms cake, 2 layers of cheese were stacked and accented with florals. This was served with fruits, olives and other meats and cheeses.  Inside the Stables a long farm table was draped with white fabric that trailed off the table. All of the florals were in gold, rose gold and clear glass containers with all white florals. Copper charges with topped with rose gold napkins and modern white plates along with copper flatware. A small tented place card accented with the couples monogram in rose gold and sprayed rose gold greenery was the perfect added touch.  Beaded chair covers were accented with florals for the bride and groom to sit in.

Last night, as I was flipping through old images for a top secret project I am working on, I came across the wedding of Jessica and Stephen.  To describe this wedding as a pivotal point in my career as a wedding photographer is an understatement.  It was my first of many at the Thompson House and Gardens, a venue which is one of my favorite.  But it was also the day that I met my best friend, Jessie, who later went on to create Southern Sophistication Designs.  We have put together dozens of weddings in the interim.  So I knew that I just had to post a few of my favorite of this lovely bride and her beau in celebration of Throwback Thursday.  I hope that you enjoy this little trip down memory lane as much as I have!

If you love this venue too, then be sure to check out more of our weddings there.  Kerri and Daniel are one of our favorite couples ever and they tied the knot there in a stunning shabby chic fall wedding.  Another personal fave is the wedding of Mallory and Brent.  It absolutely poured the rain that day but we still had amazing images to show for it!!  Maybe even more amazing because of the rain.  If you want a more rustic feel to your Thompson House wedding, be sure to check out the country nuptials of Shannon and Chris.  They make such a stunning couple!

I can’t think of many other things that I enjoy more than staging and photographing wedding stationery. . .except maybe wedding cake. . .  So of course I have a blast at wedding shows when I get enough time to play with a few stationery sets from those uber talented paper designers.   I got just the opportunity to do that recently at the Classic City Bridal Bash.  I think that we can all agree that this set is just absolutely to die for!! Ladies, you need it NOW!!  Not tomorrow, not next week, NOW!

If you’re planning a sweet rustic wedding, this suite would be perfect!  I also happen to feel that it would be amazing for a bridal shower as well.  Don’t forget to have amazing paper for that too!!  And you know what you should also have for your bridal shower?  A kick-ass photographer.  Yup, I did go there.

And last but not least is this elegant scripty set.  I love how you can go white and black with it for an ultra sophisticated and glam look, or ivory and nude for a more down home feel.

So ladies, if you love this paper as much as I do, then be sure to check out Tiger Lily’s Etsy store for some more AMAZING paper to make your wedding day perfect!!  And yes, your paper IS important.  It’s the first thing that people see about your wedding (except your Facebook picture of your ring of course), and if you have an awesome tog for your day, they will be starting your wedding album with it.  So be sure to make it pretty AND memorable AND unique AND a testament to who you are and what your wedding will be.

Be sure to click here for more wedding stationery inspiration.  If you think the Hardeman Sams House might be the perfect place for you to say I Do, we have lots to share with you!!  We love our most recent shoot there which is full of Pantone’s colors of the year, Serenity and Rose Quartz, and there is even a bunny.  Eeeeek!!!  We also have a fabulously glam Pretty Woman inspired Valentine’s Day wedding there too!!  But it’s not just for weddings.  Zoe loves to have her birthday party there.  And of course, mama has to take pictures.  Here is a link to her Frozen party from last year.

Back in March, we were honored to be a part of the 9 Oaks Farm open house.  As I was setting up, I noticed that Posh Cakery had already brought in some of their cakes.  Unable to resist the opportunity to play with one of my favorite parts of a wedding, I grabbed my camera (which shockingly I ACTUALLY had with me) and set up a few glamour portraits.   Just because you are having a barn or a farm wedding, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have some girly fun with your cakes!!  Check out this vintage vanity setup!!  Remember ladies, the more the merrier!  Have smaller cakes but more of them for a fabulous cake bar. . .

LOVE me some pink wedding cake ladies!!  YUMMY!!!! And just because you want pink doesn’t mean that you have to go blush.  Make your cake stand out!!! Make it hot pink!!!

We love it when Wedding Chicks picks up one of our real weddings!!  And most recently they featured Chris and Paisley’s wedding from the Barn on Belmont.  Even though it stormed like crazy, it made for an amazing day!!  Be sure to head on over and check it out!!    If you love barn weddings, be sure to check out a few more from the Barn on Belmont.  Ashley and Elias is one of our favorite.  They had a beautiful fall wedding graced with purple and a bohemian feel.  Kaelan and Chad had a fire-fighter themed wedding that was also featured on Wedding Chicks.  We also love the Barn at Price Mountain Farm in Pendergrass!!  Heather and Chancey’s fall wedding in blush was soooo dreamy!!  Kelsey and Chris had another rainy day bohemian wedding that turned out sublime.
